Parkside Sixth is an inclusive, individual and supportive learning environment in which active learners thrive. Our students achieve outstanding results: in 2016 our IB results put us in line with the international average, and our average BTEC result was a Distinction. These are testament to the hard work of our students and the passion and commitment of our staff.
As a member of Parkside Sixth, students have access to a global community of learners through our partner colleges in four different continents across the world. Both the International Baccalaureate and our BTEC courses are qualifications that open up university study the world over, and the links formed through the International Baccalaureate Organisation are open to all Parkside Sixth students.
Expert teachers at Parkside Sixth provide outstanding teaching, and students form a close partnership with their personal tutor, who becomes a critical friend to support and challenge, knowing and helping them as individuals. Our students often comment that one of their favourite things about us is the fact that they feel part of a close knit community – which is something we pride ourselves on.
Students will develop their leadership through the opportunities on offer. As an IB student, it is through the CAS programme (Creativity, Action, Service) and coordinating extra-curricular activities both for the sixth form and the wider Cambridge Academic Partnership community. BTEC students are also able to participate in IB CAS style opportunities, in addition to hands-on work experience placements, and vocational experiences such as employability skills sessions offered by a range of local organisations with which we have excellent links.
Parkside Sixth’s city centre location puts students at the heart of everything Cambridge has to offer and gives unparalleled opportunities to learn in diverse professional environments – from university museums and galleries to the Arts Picturehouse Cinema.
Whether you live in Cambridge itself, or further afield, Parkside Sixth is perfectly placed for a range of bus and train routes. Our central location also means that we can offer inspiring places in which to learn, with new science labs, classrooms and study spaces. The location of the Eden Centre, near the Grafton Centre, Midsummer Common and the Grand Arcade, means that all of the city centre’s amenities are close by.
Many of our students go on to study at high-performing universities such as Edinburgh, Southampton, Birmingham and the University of London’s Institute in Paris, the only British University Institute in Continental Europe.
